Augeo’s international academy does not only offer courses translated in English and Spanish, but also develops custom courses for other countries. An example is a course developed in cooperation with 9 German children's hospitals, which offers information that is in line with the day-to-day practice of the German professional.
The Augeo academy has developed a large amount of teaching materials to help tackle child abuse and domestic violence in the Netherlands. This material has already reached thousands of professionals and other students. Now we would also like to share our knowledge and experiences with organisations in other countries.
Child abuse and domestic violence in other countries
Many countries face the same problems as those experienced in the Netherlands when it comes to child abuse and domestic violence:
- Insufficient attention is paid to the issues of child abuse and domestic violence.
- Many people who work with children are not sure how to best deal with child abuse and domestic violence.
- Professional and vocational education courses pay insufficient attention to aspects such as how to recognise the signs of child abuse, how to raise and discuss the issue of child abuse, and what action can be taken.
- Additional training is provided to few professionals.
International collaboration
The Augeo academy works with a range of partners in other countries to develop online learning materials. As in the Netherlands, this is always done in collaboration with the professional sector for which the course is designed. One of our key partners is the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN), a network organisation linking professionals in almost 100 countries in tackling child abuse. ISPCAN and Augeo academy have produced a number of courses with the assistance of international experts. These courses include ‘Multidisciplinary teams in the field of child abuse and neglect’, and ‘The importance of medicine in evaluating child sexual abuse’. A number of pilot projects are currently underway in the United States and Germany.
