Augeo Foundation is a Dutch non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children grow up safe and resilient. We focus on children who experience challenging or traumatic situations – such as domestic violence, parental mental health issues,and/or addiction problems, growing up in poverty, or abuse. These experiences can have a profound impact on a child’s development, well-being, and life. Our mission is to ensure that every child feels seen, heard, and supported, so they can recover, thrive, and build a healthy life.

We believe that prevention and early recognition make a crucial difference. By raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and empowering professionals, we can help stop harmful situations sooner and limit the long-term consequences for lifestyle and health caused by adversity. In addition to prevention, we focus on strengthening resilience –empower children and families with the tools and support they need to deal with life’s challenges and build brighter futures.

Why safe and resilient childhoods matter

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) – such as abuse, neglect, or chronic stress – can leave lasting effects. Prolonged stress interferes with a child’s ability to learn and develop, increasing the risk of both mental and physical health problems that may persist throughout their lives. Yet, many of these harmful effects can be prevented or reduced. Early, effective intervention and the right kind of support are key. A child’s health or happiness should not be determined by what they experience at home.

Our approach

Augeo Foundation combines scientific research, professional expertise, and the views of children and families with lived experience. We apply this knowledge into practica tools, including online courses, educational materials, knowledge sessions, and innovative tools. These resources are designed to support professionals, parents, and policymakers, helping them offer effective help where it’s needed most.

Through our Augeo Academy, we provide more than 100 online courses tailor-made for different sectors, such as education, healthcare, and daycare. Every year, over 100,000 professionals use our training to better recognize, prevent, and respond to signs of abuse, violence, or neglect. increasing knowledge and skills to recognize and tackle domestic violence and child abuse earlier.

Our Resilience Program focuses on strengthening children’s inner resources – from emotional regulation to self-confidence and coping skills. In our Resilience Workspace, professionals can find a wide range of tools and projects that help children strengthen their resilience and recover from challenging situations.

Working together for change

We believe that solving complex social issues requires collaboration. That’s why we partner with municipalities, ministries, police, Veilig Thuis, researchers, and professional associations. By working together, we ensure that support is timely, effective, and accessible.

As an ANBI-certified foundation, we reinvest income from our paid courses directly into new projects that tackle domestic violence and childhood adversity. This allows us to continuously develop meaningful solutions that help children grow up safe, supported, and resilient – because every child deserves a strong foundation for life.

We often tackle projects together with other partners. For eample, municipalities and ministries, but also the police, Veilig Thuis (Child Protective Services) or professional associations. Not only because cooperation is crucial when dealing with complex problems, but also because we want to help other agencies fulfil their role, because ultimately they will have to do it. And in all this, we naturally work closely with the parents and children, because that is what we do it for!

Children at the heart

"How can I truly make a difference for children who need it most? This question lies at the core of Augeo Foundation, the independent foundation I founded nearly 20 years ago. Back then, much was still unknown about child abuse and domestic violence. We were closely involved in the development and implementation of the Dutch reporting code (meldcode) and created many courses and tools for professionals working with children and families. Through these efforts, we reach more than 100,000 professionals each year – ensuring that help arrives sooner and more often where it is needed.

But even today, there are still children who experience deeply harmful situations at home. Children who live under such stress and tension that it has a huge impact on their well-being. Of course, we focus on prevention. Yet strengthening resilience can also make a world of difference for children and their parents, helping them to continue developing in a healthy way.

This remains my passion: to ensure that every child can grow up safe and resilient."
